Brr, it's cold outside! When the cold weather rolls in, there is nothing more important than keeping your little one warm. Here's a list of some of our favorite cold-weather items to dress Baby in for winter this year.
We know that staying inside with your little ones is no easy task, but sometimes it's necessary. After the constant snacks, spills, and failed nap attempts, it's time for some inspiration. We've compiled a list of 10 fun things you can do with your little ones at home - to turn those stir-crazy moments into cherished memories. Let's get started!
1. Build a Fort
Building a fort is an easy thing to do that can keep little ones at home entertained for hours. Plus, you have all the supplies to build a fort right in your living room. Grab a few cushions, pillows, bedsheets, and a flashlight, and you've created a new little world for your little ones to explore.
2. Living Room Movie Day
Putting on a movie for your kids is nothing new, but there are simple ways you can make it special. Set up sleeping bags on the floor, pop some popcorn, or let your kiddos dress up like the characters in the movie.
3. Sensory Play
This idea is great for babies and toddlers. Create sensory stations in containers with raw beans, rice, water beads, moon sand, jello, and any other fun items you can find around the house. Your little ones at home will have fun for hours exploring all these new sights and textures. Plus, sensory play is great for fine and gross motor skills!
4. Water Table
Whether you have a water table, a large flat container, or a bathtub, all of these will work to create a water play station. Fill the container with water and add in some fun elements. Bath toys, paper boats, water beads, sponges, and more can create a fun waterscape for your kids to use their imagination.
5. Play in the Backyard
Being stuck at home doesn't limit your family to staying indoors. If the weather is nice, there are plenty of activities you can do in the backyard. If you don't have a swing set, you can create a scavenger hunt, pick flowers, run relay races, play bozo buckets, blow bubbles, and much more.
6. Finger Painting
Sometimes making a mess is the best medicine! You can't beat a classic finger-painting moment. Get your little ones an old t-shirt and let the artist create a masterpiece. If your kids are too little to use paint, try an edible food mash in the highchair or let them use water and a paintbrush.
7. Sock Puppet Theatre
Have some socks without a matching pair? Get creative and make sock puppets with your little ones at home. This is a great way to encourage your kids to use think outside the box. Challenge them to put on a puppet show!
8. Music Time
Chances are your kids have a list of their favorite songs. Even though you have probably heard them a million times, having a dance party with your kids is a great way to shake out their stir-crazy energy.
9. Making Non-Toxic Playdough
Playdough is a great way to encourage playtime. There are endless possibilities for what you can create. There are many homemade non-toxic playdough recipes out there to choose from.
10. Indoor Picnic
Is the weather outside looking grim? Take your picnic indoors! Set up a picnic blanket and some fun snacks and pretend you're outside. You'll be surprised how a simple change in your kid's lunch routine can make all the difference.
We hope that this blog post gave you some fun ideas to try out with your little ones at home. A new perspective can make all the difference. Happy memory making!

Our cozie game is strong! Did you know our Cozie Fleece is made up of 70% cotton and 30% polyester, as opposed to the 100% polyester fleece that most companies use? Since our Cozie Fleece is made predominantly with cotton fibers it has a unique natural softness to it that you won’t find anywhere else. There’s so much more to love about our Cozie products. We’ve highlighted some of our favorite features below!
The unique cotton and polyester blend of our Cozie Fleece allows the fabric to breathe while continuing to block out the cold. We want your little one to get the best of both worlds!
Our Cozie Fleece is 70% cotton, giving it a unique natural softness that can't be found in fleece made from 100% polyester. Parents tell us all the time that Zutano Cozie Fleece is the only type of fleece that they're willing to use to dress their little one.
There is nothing worse than washing a new item of clothing and seeing that the fabric is already starting to pill! We know how tough little ones can be on their clothing, so we worked hard to create quality fleece products that hold their color and texture after several trips to the washer and dryer.
Welcome to the land of possibilities! We’ve got tons of mix & match color and style options to choose from in our Cozie Fleece. Have fun dressing your little one in a variety of booties, pants, hats, mittens, jackets, dresses and more. All these items come in coordinating colors with our signature warm Cozie Fleece material.
Winter is here but is your little bundle of joy bundled up? You don't have to go far to find the perfect selection of winter gear. Take a look at some of our Cozie fleece favorites for the winter season below!

Are you ready to stock up on winter gear for your little one this year?
After this long winter we’re all eager to get out into the sunshine with our little ones. All babies, but especially babies under 6 months, have incredibly sensitive skin. The best way to protect them is to keep their skin covered up and to keep them in the shade. When you do venture into the sunlight, here are some tips to keep your baby safe:
• Use a Sun Hat - We have you covered! Our sun hats are not only stylish and affordable, but they offer UPF 30+ protection for your little one. Shop our adorable sun hats HERE
• Cover Skin With Clothing - Baby does not need a tan! It's important to make sure you're using clothing to cover as much as Baby's skin as possible without overheating. Make sure to frequently check any exposed areas to make sure the sun is not hitting them for an extended period of time.
• Wear Sunglasses - Keep sensitive eyes protected by using a UV blocking pair of sunglasses. Even if they’re wearing a hat, the sun’s rays can bounce off the water or other surfaces and expose them from below.
• Use Sunblock - If you’re thinking of using sunblock on your baby, they are not recommended for use on babies under 6 months of age. Choose a brand that is baby safe, and reapply often especially if baby is in the water
Keep these tips in mind so both you and your little one can enjoy the sun in a safe, relaxing, and pain-free environment all summer long.
Swaddling is a simple, effective and comfortable way to keep your baby feeling safe and warm as they get used to the outside world. There are several different ways to swaddle, but having a go-to technique can help you save time and keep you from having to redo the swaddle every time your baby moves around. Here is what we suggest to achieve the perfect wrap:
1. Bring opposite corners of the swaddle together so that it folds into a triangle, similar to how you would fold a napkin. Place Baby on top with the shoulders in line with the folded over (long edge) of the triangle.
2. Place Baby’s right arm against the body and use the same side of the swaddle to pull it over the arm and chest. Tuck the swaddle under the left side of the baby, but keep the left arm free.
3. Take the bottom of the swaddle and fold it up over Baby’s feet, tucking it into the top of the swaddle below the chin.
4. Wrap the remaining part of the swaddle’s left side over Baby’s left arm and chest, around the right side, and tuck it in under the back. Make sure to keep the swaddle loose enough for Baby to be comfortable but tight enough to feel secure.
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends three main features when choosing a walking shoe:
As you can see in diagram, Zutano shoes were designed to adhere closely to these guidelines and provide the best possible walking experience for your little one.
The outsole of the shoe is made of flexible, soft leather with rubber grippy treads to keep your baby safe and promote natural foot movement, while the insole keeps your little one comfy with cushioned, high-density foam.
The stylish, 100% genuine leather upper body is soft and breathable to keep little feet dry and comfy once they start picking up speed. Hook and loop straps on both sides ensure a snug, secure fit.
The shoe comes with a drawstring canvas bag for both easy transport and sharp presentation. Whether it's for your own baby or a gift for someone else's, our shoes make a perfect first walker for babies.

How cute is this little guy!? With Christmas fast approaching, you will get a lot of use out of this elf suit after Halloween is over. It’s a great one-piece outfit to take your baby to any holiday party or for snapping cute holiday photos at home next to the Christmas tree. We paired the suit with our Cozie Booties, another great staple to have in your baby’s wardrobe.
To achieve this look you will need -
Measure your baby’s ears as a guide. Fold your felt square in half, then in half again so you have four layers. Mark the top layer with four dots showing the height and width of baby’s ear, then draw the desired elf ear shape around your size guide. Cut through all four layers about ½” outside the shape you drew. This extra allowance will leave room for your hem. Separate your layers into two and two and flip one pair over so they mirror each other. Sew around the outside, leaving the flat edge that will be pinned to the hood open. Flip your ear inside out and stuff with the felt scraps leftover from cutting out the ears. Fold the felt on the open edge inward and sew shut from the outside. Use your brown marker to draw the ear details as shown and voila! Pin the ears to the hood, keeping the pin on the outside under the ears, or if you don't like using safety pins you can sew them on.
Price for the Elf Suit is $43. The booties are an additional $21.
This adorable outfit features our classic cotton beanie and our snuggle sack for an easy outfit that your baby can be safe and comfortable in if he or she falls asleep. If your baby does not have a snuggle sack in their wardrobe this is a must have. Much safer that a blanket, this garment stays in place, keeps your baby’s feet warm, and cannot be kicked off. Layer this over any tee or onesie of your choice.
To achieve this look you will need -
For the hat, simply draw the pattern on as shown. Start with an outline and then fill it in. Use washable markers so you can wash off the pattern after Halloween if you'd like.
Cut your seeds out of the black felt. To attach the seeds, I chose to use a safety pin so that the seeds could be removed afterwards, but you can also glue them on or put a couple stitches in if you'd rather not use the pins. Hide the pin under the seed. Keep the pin on the outside, away from baby’s skin.
Price for both pieces (Beanie and Snuggle Sack) is $47.50.
This sweet outfit is made of our super soft velour and is sure to be a hit with your little one. Our Velour Coveralls are great for chilly nights and the Bunny Hat will be an adorable addition to any Easter outfit come spring. We added our Velour Booties to complete the look. This outfit is comfortable and versatile, and best of all if you’re not into crafting (or just don’t have the time) this costume doesn’t require any additions or makeup. However, if you’d like to add a cute bunny tail or paint on a bunny nose it sure would look cute! This bunny tail is actually a pom pom hair tie from the craft store. Just cut off the elastic band, pin it on (pin on the outside) and BOOM! Instant cotton tail.
Featured here in cream and also available in hot pink. Price for the Bunny Hat and Velour Coveralls is $56. The booties are an additional $21.
This little cutie pie looks fierce! Your baby will want to play dress up in this super soft Furry Bear Hat again and again. This outfit can be worn in many different ways. Featured here with our Furry Bear Hat, Vest, and Mittens along with our Cozie Jacket, Cuff Pants, and Cozie Furry Gripper Booties in chocolate. This outfit will keep your baby nice and warm if he or she plans to tag along trick or treating. If you’re planning on staying inside you can lose the jacket and mittens and layer the vest over a basic tee or onesie so your little one can stay cool after all that running around and growling! We added a simple brown nose (courtesy of Momma’s makeup bag) to complete the costume, but this outfit surely does not require any makeup to achieve the look. If your baby has sensitive skin or is not in the mood for face painting, no problem!
Price for all six pieces (hat, vest, mittens, jacket, pants, and booties) for a warm, outdoor look is $145.50. Price for the indoor, four piece look (hat, vest, pants, and booties) is $104. Please note, if you purchase the booties they are available in non-gripper (size 6M) or gripper (12M-24M) for babies on the move!

Happy Halloween from Zutano!
]]>Way back, our founders started Zutano literally on the kitchen table of their New York City Greenwich Village apartment, shortly before their first daughter Sofia was born in 1989. Making it work has been the motto of the young entrepreneurs from the early days of Zutano and having a baby by their side was just part of this new company. Uli says, “I just couldn’t have imagined handing Sofia off to a day care provider during this first special year.”
Zutano made “Babies at Work” an official company policy over 15 years ago. By all accounts the Zutano baby to work program has been a huge success – now 26 babies later the Zutano baby to work program has become one of our most important and cherished benefits in the company.
The way that the program works here at Zutano is that the new mother or father moves to a private office space big enough to accommodate a crib. There is no outside daycare providers, the parent has their baby with them at all times and has the freedom to nurse and tend to their baby’s needs, as long as they stay on top of their work responsibilities. Zutano co-founder Michael Belenky says “The secret is flexibility. Babies have always been our inspiration and passion at Zutano. Having babies in our office has helped us to build a true sense of community and extended family. Young babies do a lot of sleeping and we have found that when babies have the security of having their mom or dad by their side and their needs met, they are mostly happy campers.” Being there with your baby to bond and experience your baby’s first giggles and maybe the first wobbly steps during that first year is priceless.
Here are a few things to consider if you think a baby-at-work program may be right for you:
Zutano is just one of more than 150 companies, including state agencies in Kansas and Arizona, that have babies-at-work policies. If you think this plan might work at your company, follow these tips from Carla Moquin, founder of the Parenting in the Workplace Institute:
Let’s face it, for many families, the first child is often not human! Many homes have a family pet well before they begin having kids. It takes a bit of planning, but it can be a wonderful experience introducing your new baby to a pet and enjoying life as a new pack!
“Welcoming a new child into the world can be the most amazing and scariest moment in one’s life,” says Dr. Joel English, D.V.M and partner of River Cove Animal Hospital based in Williston, Vermont. “Bringing a new baby home and introducing them to your pets doesn’t need to add to this anxiety…but it is important to start early to ease this transition.”
Dr. English shared this advice:
– If it’s possible, every young pet should be socialized to children and babies. By exposing kittens and puppies to children you are setting them up for a life free of fear around kids. These interactions can be short but should always be observed and kept positive. If you have adopted an older dog or missed the opportunity to socialize them that is ok, older pets can still be afforded the opportunity to meet children prior to the arrival of the new family member. If you do not have ways for them to meet other children don’t worry, you can indirectly expose them to the sounds of children with cds, tv shows or movies. If you are especially concerned about how your dog will react to the new child you can even carry around a life-like doll that makes crying noises!
– Once the baby arrives it’s a good idea to bring home blankets, hats or booties from the hospital so they can acclimate to the scent of the child before they arrive.
– When the baby comes home it’s important not to force interaction with the pet. Often pets will prefer to keep their distance as they get their bearings. Allow them to become comfortable on their own terms.
– Life with a child can be hectic, try to maintain your pet’s routine. The hardest part of bringing a new child home is being sure to continue to allow your pet appropriate stimulation through play and exercise — it is important to provide them with this outlet.
– All interactions between the child and pet should be supervised. If you can’t supervise, make sure to confine your pet to a safe area, like a crate, in another room. Remember that it is impossible to anticipate a pet’s reaction to the new child. Pets can be unpredictable and safety of the baby is paramount.
It takes time and dedication to preparing your pet for a new family member. Proper planning will certainly help your children and pets establish a wonderful relationship and build long-term furry friendships!

We wanted to share only the best, our favorite apple pie recipe from our friends over at King Arthur Flour… nothing says fall quite like warm delicious apple pie. You can follow the recipe here or visit their page, The Best Apple Pie Recipe for more info!
CRUST
2 cups King Arthur Pastry Flour Blend or King Arthur Unbleached All-Purpose Flour
heaping 1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup (8 tablespoons) cold unsalted butter
3 to 5 tablespoons ice water
FILLING
9 whole apples (about 10 cups) Cortland or other baking apples, peeled, cored and sliced
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons Apple Pie Spice
1/4 cup boiled cider
1 tablespoon rum (optional)
1/4 cup King Arthur Pie Filling Enhancer
1/8 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
juice of 1/2 lemon (about 2 tablespoons)
TOPPING (OPTIONAL)
2 tablespoons milk
2 tablespoons sparkling sugar
Instructions:
To make the crust: Whisk together the flour and salt, then cut in half the butter until crumbly. Add the remaining butter and work it in roughly with your fingers, a pastry cutter, or a mixer. Don’t be too thorough; the mixture should be very uneven, with big chunks of butter in among the smaller ones.
Drizzle just enough water over the mixture to make it cohesive, tossing until it begins to come together.
Gather it into a ball, divide in half, flatten each half into a disk about 3/4″ thick, and wrap well. Refrigerate for 30 minutes.
To make the filling: In a large bowl, stir together the filling ingredients, mixing until well-combined. Set aside.
Preheat the oven to 425°F with a rack on the lower shelf.
To assemble the pie: Roll one piece of pie crust into a 12″ round, and lay it gently into a 9″ pie plate. Spoon in the filling. Roll out the other piece (or make a lattice), lay it over the filling, and seal and crimp the edges. Brush the top crust with milk, and sprinkle it with sparkling sugar, if desired.
To bake the pie: Place the pie on a baking sheet to catch any drips. Bake for 15 minutes, then reduce the heat to 375°F, and bake for an additional 45 minutes, or until the top is brown and filling is bubbly.
Remove the pie from the oven, and place it on a rack to cool completely before cutting.
Store, loosely covered, on the counter for a day. Refrigerate, tightly wrapped, for up to a week.
Speaking of delicious apples, be sure to check out Apple Basket! Our new apple print goes hand in hand with any fall activity such as apple picking, pumpkin carving or even just apple pie-eating! ]]>We’ve been designing baby essentials for almost 25 years and the one ‘constant’ we find in our Zutano designs is the ability to partner comfort and practicality with fun, whimsical style for your newborn. Our history as a company was guided by the limitations we noticed in apparel being offered to new parents. It just did not reflect the excitement, curiosity and adventure that we expected we would experience as new parents. I would ask my husband (and Zutano co-founder) Michael, “would you dress our baby in this?” and the answer was always the same. So, just before the birth of our first child, we decided to take matters into our own hands. We started Zutano in the comfort of our NYC studio apartment in 1988. Till this day, as both of our daughters are now adults, we continue to be inspired by babies: the simple, pure curiosity, the freshness and excitement in a baby’s eyes. All of a baby’s sights and sounds ignite a world of color and characters for me.
Knowing what those key items are that one should have on hand when their baby comes home is critical, so after 25 years of dressing newborns, we’ve put together a fool-proof list of the ‘Zutano Sensational Seven’ that will leave new parents equipped and their baby well-styled!
1. Kimono Tops: Of course onsies are essential, but after dressing so many newborns, we know how hard it is to pull fabric over delicate, growing noggins A soft Zutano body-wrap is so easy to slip onto baby by gently rolling him/her into it because it opens completely flat. Kimono styles are also very ‘belly button friendly’ and are ideal for baby’s comfort until their umbilical cord falls off. We’d recommend having at least 4-5 so there is always a fresh one on hand.
2. Onesies: This side-snap style allows the onesie to lay completely open so you simply place baby in, wrap, snap and go! No pulling over the head! Easy, comfortable and protective; the foundation of a baby layette! Saying that you’ll need 3 or 4 means that you’ll be doing laundry too often! We’d recommend stocking up on 6-8, in a variety of colorful prints. Mixing and matching prints on onsies with signature Zutano striped leggings turns even the most mundane errand into a bold baby fashion statement.
3. Footies: Footies represent a wonderful fashion canvas as they flow over baby’s shape and keep feet warm and toasty. We love to see our unique patterns adorn the full baby body and wrap up a cute bundle of joy and wonder all while allowing easy access with snaps from neck to tush! At least 3 to 4 footies would be ideal for a layette.
4. Booties: Zutano booties ARE the end-all and be-all essential. They’ve been touted by the press, top mom bloggers and mothers & fathers world-wide as the best bootie-ever! Soft and cozie, they fit perfectly. With our unique snap system, they do not fall off and make it hard for babes to pull off, so they do not easily get lost or magically disappear. We suggest one in every color & stripe!
5. Gowns: Zutano newborn receiving gowns are the ultimate garment for flexibility and comfort. Ideal for the first few weeks of life, the gown slips on easily with an elastic opening at the bottom to snuggle around tiny toes. There is an overlapping collar, which gently falls around the head and fold-over cuffs to protect hands, keep fingers warm and to prevent baby from scratching themselves. The receiving gown is a wonderful garment when paired with blankets and caps and can also be layered over leggings for extra warmth. Having 3-4 gowns will ensure that baby stays peacefully quiet as dad gently changes that diaper!
6. Caps: Zutano’s newborn hats are warm, protective and easy to wear. An essential element for any new baby’s wardrobe, new parents will reach for these hats again and again. They come in a huge variety of bright, fun colors and super cute prints. Have at least 3-4 on hand, or get one for each day of the week!
7. Blankets: Zutano blankets are warm and cuddly with two layers of interlock cotton making them great for travel, rest, and play time. We suggest 2-3, one for the car, diaper bag and home.
We are continually grateful for the input from moms & dads worldwide, as well as from the new parents in our office. To create a truly terrific product, you’ve got to know, understand and love your target market – babies and children. Nine years ago, we implemented the Zutano ‘Bring your Baby to Work’ program. Our employees with new babies are allowed and encouraged to bring their babies to work and nurture them in the work place through their first year of life. This has allowed us to surround ourselves with our inspiration every day, beautiful babies!
About Zutano: For more than twenty years, Zutano has been committed to celebrating the diversity of all children, creating exceptional, innovative, and versatile products. Zutano designs beautiful lifestyle collections that draw inspiration from the children of this world and introduces prints and patterns that reflect their spirits. Located in Cabot, Vermont, Zutano carefully sources only the finest fabrics and softest cottons for each new product, creating a line of superior quality clothing, bedding and accessories in a rainbow of colors and prints that have no equal in the industry. Zutano is available at more than 1,400 gift and specialty boutiques and retailers worldwide as well as on the web at select e-tailers and the Zutano e-boutique.
